July & August

It's random picture catch-up time.  Below are some photos from this past July & August.

We attended a local parade the morning of the 4th of July.  I usually host a party, but with a 2 month old baby, I wasn't ready to do that this year, so we celebrated the evening at my parents.

Watching fireworks in the backyard.

Yes, Brooklyn was actually sleeping like this . . .

Working with those small beads that melt with the iron for the first time.  Katelyn got really into it.

We went to a Luau at the retirement home I work for.  Aunt Lisa did some dancing with the girls.

Practicing cutting & gluing and our colors by finding pictures in magazines that are the right colors.

We went to Sunday lunch at my parents one day - here is GG & Katelyn reading together.

We joined my sisters up in the high desert at the fish hatchery.  It was a pretty warm day, but the kiddos enjoyed feeding the fish and walking around for about half an hour.

Micah came over to play one day while his mommy went away with friends.  He caught a ride with Brooklyn . . .

The girls were invited to a birthday party that had a dance class instructor - they loved it.  (They are in the middle of the next photo.)

Katelyn's turn in the middle of the parachute.
There was also water play at the party when the dancing was done.

Before the end of the summer, I took the kids to a local splash pad.  We had a good time, but they spent more time on the playground than in the splash pad.  They prefer splash pads that come up from the ground, not with big high water features at this age.

Taking a break from 'splashing' to have a picnic at the park.

Madison slept for most of the time.

Life is busy, but busy is good!

Pumpkins and Halloween

This post is a little out of order, but I have had a few requests for the Halloween pictures, so here is my Halloween post.

I thought it would be fun to do a pumpkin unit for preschool as there are tons of materials available with that theme.  We did several days of work with the pumpkin theme, then did a craft and carved our pumpkins for Halloween.

Katelyn working on her 'word families.'

Brookie gluing her little puzzles.

Making pumpkins crafts.

Carving their pumpkins.  A BIG highlight.

The cutest onlooker.

Seed scoopers.

Daddy working on the faces.

The final products!

We cooked our pumpkin seeds. (They learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin during preschool.)  The seeds on the left were supposed to be garlic flavor, but the got a little burnt.  The ranch ones in the pan turned out really tasty.

I made a pumpkin pie cake that the girls enjoyed.

Minnie & Cinderella!

Minnie, Cinderella & Super Cute Baby!

Our friends came over again for trick-or-treating!  So fun for the kids.

The kids are still eating their candy, they made a haul even though it didn't seem like that many people were handing out candy.  There must have been some generous givers.  I don't try to make a huge deal about the actual Halloween day as it is not my favorite holiday, but the girls absolutely love it and it is fun for them to dress up.  We only had 3 kids come to our door this year and Katelyn was sooooooo disappointed that she didn't get to hand out candy before she went to bed.  For some reason our neighborhood was super quiet this year (although this makes Kyle happy as he gets to eat all the candy I bought).  We might have to try somewhere else next year.
